    Overview

    NeoEyes NE101 Dev Kit is the hands-on version of the NeoEyes NE101 modular sensing camera. Instead of receiving a pre-assembled camera, you assemble the NE101 from its main functional parts: ESP32-S3 Wi-Fi mainboard, OV5640 camera module, CV light board, enclosure parts, sealing rings, battery box, screws, and screwdriver. It is a better fit for teaching, prototyping, firmware work, hardware evaluation, and projects where the team wants to understand or modify the NE101 architecture before deployment.

    The kit uses the same NE101 camera platform as the assembled model. The mainboard is based on ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8 with 16 MB Flash and 8 MB PSRAM, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, Type-C UART/debug access, Micro-TF storage, Alarm input, PIR connector, USB camera connector, FPC camera connector, LED board connector, and 16-pin GPIO expansion. The standard kit includes the OV5640 120 deg FOV, 3 m focus camera module, which is suitable for wide-angle standard-distance image capture.

    Use the Dev Kit when the project needs a learning platform, an open firmware test unit, or a modular camera base for sensor-triggered snapshots. For a ready-to-install product, choose the assembled NeoEyes NE101 Modular Sensing Camera instead. For communication upgrades, Cat.1 and Wi-Fi HaLow boards are optional accessories and should be selected by region, network type, and gateway frequency.

    Build the NE101 camera from its core parts

    The Dev Kit exposes the NE101 structure instead of hiding it inside a finished housing. Students, makers, and engineering teams can assemble the top cover, middle frame, bottom cover, battery box, mainboard, camera module, light board, sealing rings, and screws step by step.

    ESP32-S3 Wi-Fi camera mainboard

    The included mainboard uses ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8 with 16 MB Flash and 8 MB PSRAM. It supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, Type-C UART/debugging, battery input, Micro-TF storage, Alarm input, PIR input, USB camera connector, FPC camera connector, LED board connector, and GPIO expansion.

    Default OV5640 120 deg/3 m camera module

    The standard kit includes an OV5640 M6 image module with 120 deg field of view and 3 m focus distance. It is intended for standard wide-angle image capture. Other OV5640 modules and USB camera modules can be used when the project needs a different focus distance, field of view, or sensor type.

    Firmware-ready low-power capture workflows

    NE101 firmware and examples support scheduled capture, interval capture, button capture, Alarm-In capture, and PIR/sensor-triggered image acquisition. Image data can be reported through MQTT/MQTTS as JSON payloads with Base64 JPEG image data.

    Expansion interfaces for real prototypes

    The 16-pin GPIO header exposes interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO, power output, and Alarm input. Developers can connect external sensors, test trigger logic, evaluate communication modules, and validate low-frequency image capture before building a final device configuration.

    Same enclosure architecture as NE101

    The Dev Kit uses the NE101 enclosure structure with top cover, middle frame, bottom cover, button, sealing rings, lens panel, and battery box. For outdoor or semi-outdoor use, assembly quality matters: make sure the sealing rings, cover alignment, panel, and screws are installed correctly.

    Important Compatibility Notice

    The standard NE101 Dev Kit is based on the Wi-Fi mainboard. Cat.1 and Wi-Fi HaLow communication boards are optional expansion modules and are not part of the standard kit unless your order specifically includes them.

    For Wi-Fi HaLow projects, match the NE101 module frequency with the gateway and local band. For Cat.1 projects, choose the correct regional module and prepare an activated SIM card for the deployment region.

    The kit supports Type-C power/debug access through the mainboard. If you plan to use continuous external 5 V Type-C power after enclosing the camera, confirm the required back-cover configuration before ordering.
